Aim:
The purpose of this course is to provide opportunities for students to work independently on fiction and non fiction films. This course will also provide opportunities for students to work in the real world of film and Studio TV production.
The mission of the Millis High School community is to provide each learner with ample opportunities to attain his/her greatest potential academically and socially. Our professional staff members will offer a challenging, meaningful, rigorous curriculum presented in a safe, respectful setting. The program of studies at Millis High School will promote the intellectual, artistic, and physical development of each learner so that he/she can compete and achieve in the classroom, the workplace and the community.

Format: (How the majority of class time is spent)
Students will spend half their time working in small productions teams as well as individually to produce one fiction, four PSAs and one documentary film. Students will be responsible for all aspects of production, From concept, scripting, shooting and post students will learn every aspect of film production. Students will edit all material on the computer using Final Cut Pro, iMovie or Avid software.
Students will spend half of their class time working on creating Studio Productions using the TriCaster and the studio cameras. Each class must deliver two programs per week.
Opportunities will be provided for students to meet Mission Based Expectations, Fine Arts Department Expectations and Course Expectations by:
Writing and re-writing television and film scripts
Solving organizational, technical and visual problems with productions
Using advanced technology to create programs
Applying newly acquired and prior knowledge to actual productions
Demonstrating skill in operating all studio equipment
Quality Performance Scale (How student will be evaluated): Students will be graded each term based on the categories listed below:
Production Portfolio includes reflection 30%
Studio Productions 30%
Time on Task/participation 40%
Class Participation is graded on a points system. Class is self directed. Students are expected to be working at all times while in class.
Production Work is graded by both pre-production work during class time and actual production work during class. When students are working in small groups they are graded individually and as a group. Their final grade is a combination of these two scores.
A= 90-100 points: Student exhibited excellent effort in all areas of his/her work; showed considerable initiation and motivation; contributed a great deal to group effort including mentoring other students; showed excellent effort in completion of individual work; contributed considerably to content and look of the production; followed all program guidelines; handed in all work on time; actively participated in production at all times; handled and stored all equipment properly at all times.
B= 80-89 points: Student exhibited good effort in all areas of his/her work; showed much initiation and motivation; contributed a good deal to group effort including mentoring other students; showed good effort in completion of individual work; contributed a good amount to content and look of the production; followed most program guidelines; handed in most of the work on time; actively participated in live production most of the time; handled and stored all equipment properly for the most part.
C= 70-79 points: Student exhibited fair effort in all areas of his/her work; showed a fair amount of initiation and motivation; contributed some to group effort; showed some effort in completion of individual work; contributed somewhat to content and look of the production; followed some of the program guidelines; handed in some of the work on time; participated in some aspects of the live production; handled and stored all equipment properly sometimes.
D= 60-69 points: Student exhibited poor effort in all areas of his/her work; showed little initiation and motivation; contributed little to group effort; showed poor effort in completion of individual work; contributed poorly to content and look of the production; followed few of the program guidelines; handed in little work on time; participated in little of the live production; handled and stored all equipment properly a few times.
F = Below 60 points: Student failed to exhibit effort in all areas of his/her work; showed no initiation or motivation; failed to contribute to group effort; showed no effort in completion of individual work; failed to contribute to content and look of the production; failed to follow program guidelines; failed to hand in work on time; did not participate in live production; failed to handle and store equipment properly.
Culminating Performance Assessment: (What student is expected to do by the end)
Each Class or Production Team will be expected to maintain an organized production journal over the course of the year on Weebly.
Each student will be expected to participate in all aspects of television studio productions
Each student will be expected to produce a variety of works over the course of the year that demonstrate an understanding of the production process and knowledge of the required equipment
Each student will be expected to show originality and be creative in his/her work to the best of this/her ability
Enabling Demonstrations: (What student will do along the way)
Student will complete independent projects thoroughly and on time, completing work both in and out of the classroom
Student will contribute to group or individual production work on a daily basis, providing both ideas and assistance in operating of all equipment
Student will score passing grade on all independent projects and group production work

Rubrics, journals, self-reviews, individual work and group production work that assess Mission Based Expectations, Arts Department Expectations and Course Expectations.
