Millis Grads are Working in the Industry!
Kristina O’Connell While attending Millis Public schools, Mrs. Mannion’s TV production class developed my passion for video production. After completing my required courses at the University of New Hampshire towards my communication degree, I decided to spend my senior year abroad studying film. Last semester I was in Prague, Czech Republic attending FAMU (Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts); an intensive international film program. There I was able to learn from professionals in the field and work with colleagues from around the world to create our own individual short films shot on 16mm. This semester, before I graduate, I am in DC with The Washington Center interning for Voice of America. I work directly with the senior executive producer of the documentary department. Once I graduate, I plan to work in documentary or entertainment video production and post production. |
Brian Walsh:
Growing up I was always fascinated and obsessed with movies and television, and when I came to Millis High School, I saw Danielle’s TV class as an opportunity to learn a little bit more about how movies were made and to make some myself. Through TV class we made several different music videos, PSA’s, and goofy class projects, and Danielle always encouraged us to try to turn our hobby into an actual profession. After High School, I went to Fitchburg State University where I enrolled in the Film Production Department. There I learned an incredible amount about almost every aspect of filmmaking, and if I wasn’t hooked before, I was then. I participated in a variety of class projects with many different students, learning how to collaborate with others and work towards a shared vision. During my time, I gravitated towards editing and post production and started being the editor for all of my major group projects. I took two senior capstone courses, Digital Cinema, in which I made a short sci-fi that took place in an escape pod set that we built, and Documentary, where Millis Alumni Ethan Vara and I worked on Transcend, our New England Motocross documentary that wouldn’t be finished and released until almost two years later. My senior year I studied abroad in Bolivia with Actuality Media, where I worked in a group of 4 other students to make a short documentary about a local changemaker. I then interned at Boston Digital Productions as an editor, where I worked on many corporate videos as well as The Strange Name, a feature length documentary. After I graduated, I was able to find work at Cramer, a large production company in Norwood where I work in the post-production department and continue to learn and grow my skill set, continuing to follow my dream of becoming a hollywood film editor. |
